2004 Central Demolition British Ladies Pool Championship

Posted on Sunday, November 14 2004 @ 07:15:57 GMT Standard Time on yvonne_ewing

The inaugural British Open Pool Championship for ladies and gents was sponsored by Central Demolition Ltd and held at the Normandy Cosmopolitan Hotel, Renfrew on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th November, 2004.

32 ladies contested the championship where Jenny Leavens defeated Gillian Hayes 5-4, current European ladies pool champion Shona Harper strolled to a 5-1 first round victory over Kim Stirling. Sam Steen defeated the Scotland ladies celebrity Michaela Tabb (McInnes) 5-0, Stacey Beattie came from 4-2 down to beat a talented Amanda Cutt 5-4, Sarah Pollard beat World Championship runner-up Amanda Watson winning 5-3. Orkney’s Rachael Sutherland beat Shetland player Krystyna Goudie 5-4.

The last 16 and Elaine Campbell (Hustler) came from 4-2 down to beat Denise Laing. Linda Gillies was too strong for Jenny Leavens winning 5-0. Jan Stirling beat Shona Harper 4-2; Naomi Wood beat Sam Steen 5-3. Stacey Beattie defeated Juliette Ramsay 5-0; Claire Dempster got some revenge from her Scottish championship defeat when she beat Sarah Pollard 5-1. Netty Anderson beat Yvonne Ewing 5-3 and Rachael Sutherland continued on her winning ways winning 5-4 to reach the quarter finals.

Elaine Campbell against Linda Gillies was a repeat of this years Scottish Ladies final and the result was reversed this time, Elaine won 5-3 to book her place in the semi-final, Jan Stirling and Naomi Wood was quite tight all the way with Jan going through 5-3. Claire Dempster against Stacey Beattie could have gone any way. Claire got through 5-3. The shock of the round was Netty Anderson being beaten from 4-1 up by Orkney’s Rachael Sutherland.

Semi-final stage and Jan Stirling started the match as she wanted, Jan secured a comfortable 6-1 win to reach the final. Claire Dempster won by the same score line beating Rachael Sutherland.

The final was good to watch with both players going for their shots. Claire was always behind and Jan Stirling from England beat Scotland’s Claire Dempster by 7 frames to 5; in doing so was crowned 2004 Central Demolitions Ladies British Pool Champion.
