2005 Scottish Ladies Championship

Posted on Friday, November 04 2005 @ 19:30:49 GMT Standard Time on yvonne_ewing

Jacky's Cards & Gifts were the proud sponsor of this years Ladies Scottish Singles Championship - owner Jackie Williamson says "i'm really proud to sponsor the Scottish Ladies Singles, an event that is very close to my heart". The title went to Ayrshire with Scotland Ladies Internationalist Diane Colville lifting the title.

The tournament started at 1.30pm with Joanne Macpherson beating fellow B team internationalist Jackie Mcintyre 5-1, Diane Colville beat Lynsey Selkirk, Claire Dempster beat Amanda McLean and Yvonne Ewing beat Krystyna Goudie by the same score line. Denise Laing beat Margaret Irvine 5-2 and Juliette Ramsay in her first tournament back beat Katie Paterson 5-2. Pauline Selkirk, Yvonne Saunders, Kathy Paton, Gillian Hayes all secured first round victories. Heather Stewart and Linda Gillies went all the way with Linda scraping through 5-4 and Angie McKay again defeated Netty Anderson.

At 5.30pm it was again time for the ladies session. Sharon Dyet beat fellow B team internationalist 5-2, Diane Colville beat Denise Laing 5-3, Juliette Ramsay scraped past Pauline Selkirk 5-4, Yvonne Saunders hammered Fiona Herd 5-0, and Angie Mackay continued on her winning ways defeating Gillian Hayes 5-3, Linda Gillies looked back to her normal self defeating Gaynor McHaffie 5-0. Undoubtedly the tie of the last 16 was Yvonne Ewing against Elaine Campbell; Yvonne came through this match 5-2.

Quarter finals and Diane Colville eased past Sharon Dyet 5-2, Yvonne Saunders was in fine form defeating Juliette Ramsay 5-1, and Claire Dempster ensured a semi-final place defeating Angie Mackay 5-2. Yvonne Ewing was a mere spectator against an in form Linda Gillies with Linda playing brilliantly to win 5-1.

Semi finals and Diane Colville and Yvonne Saunders were tied at 3-3 before Diane’s experience saw her through winning 6-4. The other semi final was a titanic battle; Claire Dempster went into a 5-2 lead before Linda rallied to 5-4. Linda had a great chance to take the match to a decider but missed and Claire cleared up to secure her place in the final.

The ladies final was contested between Diane and Claire. Both players had never won the Scottish title and it was first to 6. Claire went into a 4-2 lead before Diane levelled the match at 4-4. The match went to 5-5 and Diane took out a lovely clearance to clinch the match and be crowned 2005 Jacky’s Cards & Gifts Scottish Ladies Champion.

A very successful tournament and a big thank you must go to Jackie Williamson of Jacky’s Cards & Gifts, Shetland for sponsoring the ladies event.
