World Masters Ladies A Team Report

Posted on Sunday, April 16 2006 @ 22:12:42 GMT Daylight Time on Maxi
I would just like to express my sincere congratulations to all my players who were competing at the World Masters in Bridlington.

I can honestly say in 11 years of management, that last week was the best team performance from a Scotland Ladies Squads I have ever been involved with.

We had a very tough start against England, winning sets 1 & 2 6-5 and the final set 7-4 - a 19-14 final score set us up for our next match against the inform Welsh ladies team.

We were being beaten 3-1 by the welsh ladies when we clicked - winning the first set 6-5 and the next teo 7-4, giving a scoreline of 20-13. A very good first day.

Our next match was against Shetland, we won the sets 8-3, 7-4 and 9-2 - a final score of 24-9.

We then has Isle of Man, we won the first two sets 7-4 and the final set 8-3, coming through 22-11 winners.

Northern Ireland was our next opponents, we won these sets 9-2, 10-1 and 8-3, giving us a 27-6 victory.

Next up was France, very tough opponents and the only other team who were unbeaten and had looked very, very good on all their previous matches. Once agains we won all three sets 7-4, 6-5 and 6-5, giving us a 19-14 final result.

Gibratlar were our next opponents and we were really impressive once again, winning 9-2, 10-1 and 11-0, giving us a 30-3 result.

This meant we topped the group with France in second spot, Wales in third place and England in 4th. Semi finals were Scotland -v- England and France -v- Wales.

The semi-final was a battle right to the end, we won the first set 7-4 (I have to say here thanks to the girls for giving me the encouragement to go for a 2 in one when I was on yellows and the black hanging - I got it and was soooooooo relieved). We then unfortunately lost the second set 6-5 (the first time we had lost a set all week). We managed to keep it together and came out 17-15 winners to reach the final against France who has defeated Wales by an impressive 17-7 scoreline.

Onto the final and the TV set and first to 12. We were "up for it" right from the start, we went into a 6-1 lead, France pulled us back to 6-5 and we then managed to step up another gear and secured a 12-6 victory.

All im going to say is it was a pleasure to manage you all down there and you all made my job very, very easy.

Cant wait to see it on Sky Sports
