2010 Scottish Ladies Singles

Scotland LadiesLast 32

The first match in the ladies championship was A team internationalist Diane Colville against Kim Black. Diane was a little too strong for Kim and she booked her last 16 spot courtesy of a 6-3 victory.

Amanda Cutt played well in defeating B team internationalist Jenny Lawson by 6 frames to 3.

Two fellow a team internationalists Gaynor McHaffie and Gillian Hayes met in the first round, Gill managed to book her last 16 place after a 6-4 victory.

Yvonne Saunders was up against new player Gillian Moran and managed to secure a comfortable 6-1 victory.

Gemma Clyde against Sandra Diamond was a tough match from start to finish; Gemma managed to progress after defeating Sandra by 6 frames to 4.

Last 16

The first tie of the Last 16 put Diane Colville against Shetland A team internationalist Amanda Cutt, Amanda played very well and impressively defeated Diane by 6 frames to 2.

Gillian Hayes seems to like winning 6-4 as she booked her quarter final place after playing Yvonne Saunders.

Gemma Clyde and Jackie Williamson had final frame decider written all over it and they didnít disappoint, Gemma held her nerve to progress to the quarter final.

Linda Gillies impressively defeated Kathy Paton by 6 frames to 2; this seemed to be the preferred result as Vandana Hegde and Joanne Macpherson booked their quarter final slots defeating Pauline Selkirk and Nicola Keenan on the way.

Yvonne Ewing was playing Laura Colquhoun in the next match, Yvonne set up a quarter final against Terri Lapsley after defeating Laura by 6 frames to 3 and Terri clinically defeating Lynsey Selkirk by 6 frames to 1.

Quarter Finals

Sunday morning saw the commencement of the ladies quarter finals. Amanda Cutt was against Gillian Hayes in a tough to call match, Gill used her experience well and managed to secure a semi final place courtesy of a 7-3 victory.

The set up a semi final against the defending champion Linda Gillies who breezed past Gemma Clyde convincingly by 7 frames to 1.

Vandana Hegde was in front the whole match against Joanne Macpherson; Joanne dug deep and took the match to a deciding frame. Vandana however held her nerve to book her place in the semi final.

The final quarter final was Yvonne Ewing against Terri Lapsley; Terri didnít have much luck in the match and Yvonne made her way to the semi final, defeating Terri by 7 frames to 4 (Terri I still donít know how you managed to pot the black from the snooker and go in off).

Semi Final

The semi final line up was Gillian Hayes against defending champion Linda Gillies and Vandana Hegde against Yvonne Ewing. Linda Gillies was in exceptional form and destroyed Gillian Hayes by 7 frames to 0, and in the process didnít do too much wrong!

The second semi final was a bit different with Vandana potting ďoff the lamp shadesĒ. Yvonne, whilst the match was at 5-4 up, broke and finished and then reverse dished to book her final spot, nothing much Vandana could have done.

Two of Scotlandís most experienced players, Linda Gillies and Yvonne Ewing were contesting the best of 15 final. Yvonne raced into a 2-0 lead after Linda left her chances in each frame. From then the final was a one sided affair with Linda playing some spectacular pool. Linda secured the title of 2010 Scottish Ladies Champion with a very comprehensive 8-2 victory. After watching the weekendís event unfold, Linda was a worthy champion and someone who seems to find another gear at the Scottish Championships; this title gives Linda a staggering ninth Scottish ladies singles title, absolutely awesome.

Enjoy your year as champion as Iím sure the field will be trying (once again) to prise that trophy from your firm grip in 2011 Linda J

Thank you to Daz, Tracey and all the staff at Hustlers for once again sponsoring another major SPA event and looking after us over the weekend, it is as always very much appreciated.
